SHEEPSHAVER SLOWING DOWN MAC OS

Here's the text I get at the beginning of the Mac OS ROM file (which I extracted from the installer disk image – note that this is not the ROM I used for the SheepShaver installation – I used the version (1.6) from ROM Update for that) when I open it as text:

This is the text of my most recent build of the "sheepshaver_prefs" file:įWIW, the invisible "sheepshaver_prefs" file seems to have installed at the root /Users/name directory rather than /Users/name/Applications/SheepShaver/ where I put everything else.Īs far as the version of the install CD I downloaded, I'm pretty sure it was from a retail install CD, which should cover all systems, rather than one of the machine-specific versions.

It still doesn't get past the "?" point when booting up. I even ran "Delete Prefs" and went and installed again from scratch, set up the ROM pathway and all other settings again, this time putting the iso volume first on the list and the dsk volume next. OK, I hadn't added the iso file to the volumes list, but after doing so, it doesn't seem to have made a difference. You may have downloaded a machine-specific disk that cannot be guaranteed to be used in all systems, I'm using the new July 21 build, and I've got a root volume set up and a copy of Mac OS ROM 1.6 in it, so I've made it through the initial steps. It just hangs with a blinking "?".īTW, I checked the CD on my old G4 to see if it recognized it as a bootable system disk – it does, though it refers to the version as "Mac OS Z2-9.0". I've even tried burning an install CD from it, and even when I get it running on my OS X desktop, then start SheepShaver, I have no luck in having it recognize the OS 9 installer volume.

However, when I run SheepShaver, it doesn't seem to notice the disk image, whether I have the disk image or not. I converted it to an iso file and have it in the root volume along side the SheepShaver program. I've long since lost my OS 9 install CD, but was able to download a disk image of this CD.

The problem comes when trying to actually install the System. I'm trying to install SheepShaver/OS 9.0.4 on my Mac Pro Quad Core/OS X 10.5.4 system.
